Digital Literacy for All

Ensuring everyone can fully participate in modern life.

Addresses: Isolation, Generational Poverty, Economic Stagnation

Problem

Digital divides lock people out of jobs, services, and civic life. Even with broadband, many lack the skills or confidence to use digital tools effectively.

Context

Telehealth, online banking, job applications, and government services increasingly require digital fluency. Without it, elders, low-income families, and non-English speakers fall further behind.

Solution

Offer free, welcoming digital literacy programs in trusted spaces. Meet people where they are—from "how to send an email" to "how to start an online business."

Implementation

  • Run drop-in tech help sessions at libraries, senior centers, and community hubs
  • Train peer digital navigators from the community (especially multilingual and elder-friendly)
  • Offer device lending programs and low-cost internet access
  • Create simple how-to guides and videos in multiple languages

Examples

  • Maine: Libraries offering one-on-one tech coaching for elders and jobseekers
  • Texas: Bilingual digital literacy classes at community centers
  • Wisconsin: Mobile tech labs bringing digital skills training to rural areas
