Lafayette, Colorado

Lafayette Oral History Collection (Lafayette Public Library)

Problem

Fractured identity and "decline stories" sap motivation. People don't see themselves (or each other) in the town's story.

Solution

The Lafayette Public Library in Lafayette, Colorado hosts an online Lafayette Oral History Collection combining an archival set of taped interviews from 1968-2001 (begun with a mid-1970s Colorado State Library grant) with new interviews started in spring 2024 in five focus areas. The library lends My Story Oral History kits to residents and takes resident recordings through an interest form; the collection went online in October 2024.
