Port Townsend, Washington
Olympic Peninsula Time Bank
Problem
Lack of cash, jobs, or formal credentials leaves many residents idle or isolated—even when they have skills and a willingness to help.
Solution
The Olympic Peninsula Time Bank (OPT), run on the hOurworld platform, launched April 19, 2025 by four Jefferson County residents led by Port Townsend resident Mark Harris, covering Clallam and Jefferson counties from the start. One hour given earns one credit regardless of skill and new members start with two credits. It had 37 members and 10 exchanged hours a month after launch; the hOurworld directory listed 275 members and 989 exchanges in October 2026, and a Tri-Area sub-group met in Port Hadlock in April 2026.
