Shoreham, Vermont

Town Green & Commons / Pavilion Committee

Problem

Public assets—parks, greens, waterways, buildings—slip into neglect, privatization, or misuse when no one clearly owns their care.

Solution

Shoreham's picnic pavilion stands on the Town Green between the Platt Memorial Library and the Town Office. It was paid for with federal ARPA money ($47,916 spent in 2023-2024 against a $40,000 budget, plus about $26,600 for paving and landscaping), finished in 2024, and planted on October 5, 2024 by nine Vermont Nursery and Landscape Association volunteers following a landscape master plan. The town's website says a Pavilion Committee of volunteers maintains the pavilion and its pollinator garden and recruits helpers through the Town Office; the committee is not a listed town board and no members or minutes were found.
