Ridgway, Colorado

Decker Room Resilience Hub

Problem

Centralized energy systems leave rural communities vulnerable to outages, high costs, and fossil fuel dependence. Climate disruptions increase vulnerability.

Solution

In April 2025 the Town of Ridgway and San Miguel Power Association announced completion of a 4.8 kW solar plus roughly 37-38 kWh battery microgrid serving the 2,000 sq ft Decker Community Room on the first floor of Artspace's Space to Create building, funded by a $46,900 Colorado DOLA Microgrids for Community Resilience grant (applied for by SMPA) and town general funds, giving about 1.5 days of backup power so the room can act as a resilience hub during outages.
