Pendleton, Oregon

River Walk Soundtrack (Pendleton Public Library and James Dean Kindle)

Problem

Fractured identity and "decline stories" sap motivation. People don't see themselves (or each other) in the town's story.

Solution

In 2025 the Pendleton Public Library and musician James Dean Kindle released the River Walk Soundtrack, nine original compositions reached by QR codes on the library's existing Story Walk signboards along the Umatilla River Parkway, funded in part by a Umatilla County Cultural Coalition grant and launched September 4, 2025. The city's own page says the soundtrack was displayed along the parkway in September and October 2025; no source confirms it remained up after that.
