Danville, Kentucky
Bluegrass Community and Technical College Danville Campus, Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program, KY FAME Bluegrass Chapter
Problem
People finish training and still struggle to get hired. Employers need talent, but classroom learning doesn't always translate to day-one readiness.
Solution
Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) runs the KY FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician program at its Danville and Georgetown campuses: five semesters, class two days a week, paid work three days (about 24 hours) a week for a sponsoring manufacturer, ending in an AAS in Industrial Maintenance Technology (AMT track) and the AMT certification. The Danville cohort began in August 2015 with nine students; a 13,780 sq ft Advanced Manufacturing Center opened on the Danville campus in October 2021, funded by a $2.736M Kentucky Work Ready Skills grant plus BCTC and local money.
