Whitesburg, Kentucky
Mountain Tech Media
Problem
Skilled rural residents leave for cities because they don't see how to earn urban wages while living at home. Remote work is possible but feels isolating and uncertain.
Solution
Mountain Tech Media (MTM) was a Whitesburg, Kentucky technology and media services company co-founded by Jeremy McQueen (CEO) and Geoff Marietta (investor), incubated by Appalshop, registered as a Kentucky LLC on 2016-01-28 and governed as a worker/multi-stakeholder cooperative with structure help from KCARD. Profiles from 2016-2017 describe 8 to 12 people, multimedia, web, app, design and marketing services for clients across Appalachia and beyond, and self-reported 34 client organizations; the Kentucky Secretary of State lists the LLC as inactive with a last annual report filed 2020-06-22. No source for the book's 2021 shutdown, revenue figure, or founder write-up was found.
